Publishing to PDF Using Adobe Acrobat® Generates ActiveX Error
When publishing to PDF format with Adobe Acrobat®, you may encounter an ActiveX error number 429. This typically occurs due to insufficient user permissions for modifying the Windows registry. To remedy this problem, you system administrator will need to give you full permissions to update the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID, as well as its subkeys. Always make a backup of the Windows registry before modifying it. For more assistance with this issue, please contact our support desk.
Other Applications Installed "When Required" Cause SpecsIntact to Fail
SpecsIntact may fail if you have installed other Windows products with the option "this feature will be installed when required." A common symptom of this problem is a request to first run SpecsIntact after installing it. This failure occurs because Windows does not permit the SpecsIntact installation to supply components that it needs in order to work, and then later attempts to obtain these components by prompting for the installation disk for the other software application. To work around this issue, reinstall the other application with all components fully installed, and then reinstall SpecsIntact.
When printing a submittal register to PDF format using Adobe’s Acrobat Distiller, the left margin will be set incorrectly. To work around this problem, generate the Submittal Register using Acrobat PDF Writer instead of Distiller. To obtain the benefits of the new SpecsIntact features for creating PDF bookmarks and hyperlinks, you can first print to Distiller, and then print only the Submittal Register using PDF Writer. Be sure to select the SpecsIntact printing option "Retain Existing PDF Files Unless Replaced with Newer Versions" prior to printing the Submittal Register.
When printing a submittal register to PDF format using Adobe’s Acrobat PDF Writer, some horizontal lines may be shifted up or down so that they overlap the adjacent text. This problem with Acrobat occurs when the PDF Writer graphics resolution is set to SCREEN. To correct this problem, change the graphics resolution to any value other than SCREEN. To do this from the SpecsIntact Print Processing dialog box, select the "Setup" button, and after ensuring that PDF Writer is the selected printer, choose the "Properties" button. In the Acrobat PDF Writer Properties dialog box, the "Resolution" should be set to any value other than SCREEN (150 dpi is a good option). Select "OK" to accept this change.
SpecsIntact will sometimes incorrectly calculate the total number of pages when printing or publishing the submittal register. As a result, the last page number of the submittal register may be higher than the total page count shown. This can occur in cases where the last page contains only a few lines
Old style table headers (THD tags) may sometimes inadvertently wrap to the following page or cause portions of the remainder of the document to be underlined. Refer to the User’s Guide for guidance on the proper formatting of old styled tables. When creating table, we recommend the use of formatted tables, created by selecting the F5 key while editing in the SpecsIntact Editor.
The SpecsIntact Editor will work with up to 500 TrueType fonts. Users with more than 500 TrueType fonts on their system will not be able to view or select all available fonts in the Editor’s Fonts dialog box.
If you are spooling print jobs under Windows 95, you SHOULD NOT specify RAW data format for spooling. To properly print line graphics, the SpecsIntact software (along with many other applications) requires data to be spooled in the default EMF format. Generally this is not a problem, because most Windows 95 applications require or support the EMF data format. Earlier versions of Microsoft Excel may require RAW data format to properly print line graphics.
Setting your Windows® 95 print spooling to RAW data format would cause a Submittal Register to print incorrectly without lines.
To check or change the spooled data format on a Windows 95 PC, select Settings from the Start Menu, and then select Printers. Right-click with your mouse on the icon for the printer you are using for SpecsIntact, and then select Properties. From the available folder tabs at the top of the displayed window, select Details, and then the Spool Settings button near the bottom of the window. IF the next window shows that you have selected "Print directly to the printer," then you are not spooling print data, and this information does not apply to you. Otherwise, select the EMF spool data format, and then click on the OK button.
